Diode Switch Circuit
explain how the alignment of a diode in a circuit allows it to act as a switch?
Diode conduct signal from anode to cathode.
If you apply some voltage at the cathode which is 0.7V or more higher
than voltage of signal that comes to anode, signal will be blocked.If you remove that higher voltage from cathode, signal will pass trough diode, from anode to cathode.

Speaker Trouble...electronics?
I have a set of Insignia speakers, model NS-3099...
Basically, on and off, the left speaker only produces very little sound, it usually resolves itself, but this time it's been stuck like this for bout 2 weeks.
I want to know what exactly is causing this...I'm majoring in electronics engineering so I will most likely understand the terms you throw at me.
The circuit consists of nothing more than several resistors, a transistor, a diode or two, and a couple capacitors...
My guess is that there's not enough voltage going to the left speaker...
The subwoofer is plugged into the wall outlet...from the subwoofer, the power goes to the right speaker, which has the circuit board in it and the volume control and on/off switch...the left speaker is just a speaker.

They're PC speakers...all connected to 1 jack.
The first thing I would do is take the sub out of the equation for testing.
Connect the bad speaker (left) to the right output and see if is still bad. If it is then the problem is with the speaker itself. If it now works great, then the problem is with your stereo. Try swapping the right speaker too to double check your troubleshooting.
Trying to repair the speaker may be easy or it may be a challenge. Hopefully it is just a blown speaker or even better a loose wire.
