Diode Relay Coil
why is a diode always connected accross the terminals of a relay coil?
as used in remote conterol using a vhf reciever module
because when the voltage is removed from the coil, the energy stored in the coil is released (in the opposite direction) and can destroy the relay driver circuitry. The voltage released is much greater than what was used to energize the coil, because it is released much faster. The diode is placed across the coil to provide a return path to the other side of the coil (kinda like a short) to dissipate the energy.
