Digital Password Lock...........?

i have a digital password lock, which i bought from the market. The components used in it are :

4001 quad NOR gate
4070 quad XOR gate
2, 8-position DIP switches
2 LEDs
10, 10kohm resistors
2, 470 ohm resistors
7805 voltage regulator
4, 1N914 switching diodes
Pushbutton switch

I need to understand the working of this password lock, in not too complicated language.

I have thought of a number between 0 and 255. can you guess what it is?? Chances are you will perhaps make several guesses and still fail. One can set a number between 0 and 255 using an 8 position dip switch. So you set a number inside with one of the switches. A switch exposed to outside can be now set to 00000000. Now the lock is locked, meaning, if somebody presses the push button, the lock will not open unless of course the internal DIP switch is also set to 00000000.
The devices used will "compare" the 2 eight bit numbers and if found equal will open the lock or perhaps make the LEDs light up. perhaps one LED is green and another red. So if a match is found the green LED will light up, and remain lit till you change the setting of external DIP switch and press the push button again. That's it.
