Diode Pumped Do you know how to triple the voltage from a 9v battery?
I am building a Bob Beck device and need a 27vdc input. Rather than have a hefty box with 3 x 9v batteries connected in series, is there any way to triple the voltage from a single 9v battery? I have heard about charge pumps. You use switches and diodes and 2 capacitors, but can anyone on here draw me up a simple circuit diagram for a 9v to 27v dc step up charge pump, or something similar? And can you provide ratings for the components, as I would imagine this would be critical in the circuit. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

You need 3 caps to multiply by three. You need one set to charge while the other set maintains the output, so 6 total.
Go to Digikey, Newark, or Mouser, and find monolithic charge pumps. Highest I found was rated at 5.5V, so you'll probably have to make your own. Look up the schematics for the ones on Digikey, there are several related ones, and copy one. Probably 4 transistors per cap. I would consider using a nanoWatt microprocessor with PWM outputs if used in the circuit design for control. Well designed charge pumps are quite efficient.
Also, consider using 4 each 6V photo batteries. I've bought alkalines for under $2, and I think there are 9 or 12V ones also. Open one up, you will see it is just a stack of button cells, you can use extras to make it to 27V if needed. 9 lithium 3V button cells would do it. Much easier to stack a few of these than to make a charge pump from discretes...

My john deere gator wont crank with the key switch, I can jump wires at starter and it will fire right up.?
My 6x4 gator wont crank when I turn the key to try crank it does nothing but the fuel pump does come on. I got voltage to key switch and leaving when try to crank but its not making it to the relay. I got a new switch and relay. I checked the diode, my battery is good, I tried a jumper wire on neautral safety switch and also with it unplugged and nothing. Could the cdi prevent it from cranking the starter if it was bad but still allow it to crank and run when I jump it at starter. If i had a wiring diagram it would help. Thanks for your time.
you got a bad key switch on it,my neighbor has one of those also and he had had to replace his already and his is just two years old,and i just had to replace mine on my ATV,ignition switches on those don't last too long for some reason,make sure the neutral safety switch is good also,that will stop it from starting sometimes,mine is bad now but i bypassed it,so it will start in any gear,but be careful if you do this,its dangerous to do,i suggest you replace it if its bad,good luck.,,PS also check the fuse for the ignition its located on the relay for the starter,they do blow sometimes,
