How does an op-amp operate with two diodes in the feedback loop?


The circuit is set up like an inverting amplifier just there is two diodes in parallel (and in opposite polarities) instead of a feedback resistor. The input resistance is adjustable (~101k to 109k) and is being driven by a 60 hz AC signal. The output appears to be feeding some sort of PLL input.

Bilruss is right, It's a clipper to convert the 60hz to a pseudo square wave. You will get a ±0.6 volt square wave out of the op-amp.

In this case the slew rate is irrelevant since it is a very low frequency circuit (60hz). In this case an op-amp is good enough.

This circuit is often used to produce a clock signal sincronized with the AC power signal to fire power control tyristores or to produce a cheap accurate 60 hz clock signal.

How do I identify the value of a diode for a polarity check of a 19 Volt DC circuit?


I mean to replace it if it shows it is open in both directions.

do you mean what value will your ohmmeter read?

not relevant, and depends on the design of your ohmmeter. But it will be in the ohm range forward and the Megohm range reverse.

edit: to replace it , you need the part number which may be printed on the diode. If not, you have to look at the circuit and figure out the specs from that.

If this is a 19 volt supply, and the current is 1 amp or less, at 50 or 60Hz, then something like a 1N4002 would work.
