1987 Honda Accord sedan 4-door and trunk lid light.?

5 Years ago I replaced by trunk lid with a salvage trunk lid after an accident. At that time I only rewired the license plate lights from one pigtail cluster and just cut 3 wires (red, green, black) going to the trunk lid switch on the trunk lid latch on another pigtail cluster. I finally got around to reconnecting the trunk lid light. However, the trunk lid light switch only used two of the 3 wires - green (hot) and black (ground). The light works fine now, but I cannot see anything that uses the red wire from the trio of wires that I cut years ago. Cannot figure it out from the wiring diagram in the shop manual that I bought for the car either. The only things on the trunk lid that use electricity are the license plate lights and the trunk lid switch. What would use the red wire that is coupled with the trunk lid switch wires? Also, what is the purpose of the diode on the trunk lid light? Only the green and black wires go to the trunk lid light.

I think the extra wire is for the light on your dash that indicates that the trunk lid isn't closed, similar to the 'door ajar' light that you get when the door isn't fully closed.

i don't have a 1987 manual; the oldest I have is a 1991 and they show the diode on the warning light safety indiator circuit that turns the light on if the deck lid is open while the igntiion key is turned ON. Guess the diode is there to prevent the warning light from illuminating when the trunk is opened but the ignition key is not in the ignition such as using the key to open the trunk after the car has been shut off.
