If a diode is rated at 10 amps, at the line it is on can sink up to 25 mA, but the load only requires 2mA...?

Do you need to put a resistor before the diode?
Sorry, the diode is rated at 10mA NOT 10 amps.

Steve is correct that more info is really needed.

But... Most of the time a series resistor or other current regulation device IS needed so that you do not burn up the diode (an LED perhaps?).

2000 Cavalier Air Conditioning question?

I have a 2000 cavalier that the airconditioner turns on in 3 of the 6 defroster/fan settings without pushing the a/c switch. I have changed out the entire heater/air cond. control panel and the instrument cluster without any effect. Has anyone else had this problem on a Cavalier or heard of it before. It works great, it just turns on in recirc and both defrost modes without me pressing the a/c switch --- BCM maybe? the in-line diode by the compressor? It's obviously picking up a ground from somewhere.........any ideas?

Correct by design - sorry.

Newr GM cars (including replacement parts for older cars) activate the AC comperessor onn Defrost, Defog (blend floor/defrost) and floor modes. This was done to reduce in car humidity to help out with window fogging (ac reducses humidity). It should be turning on OSA - not recirc - at the same time. Again this was for humidity reduction. Are you sure it is in Recirc and not OSA? Sometimes the light lies (recirc indicated but AC actually in Recirc - again by design)

The control head would be sending the signal to the BCM. If it is in Recirc then that is not normal operation - you may have a incompatible control head ot the light on the control head is incorrect. Check OSA operation this way - get a thermometer and insert it in the defroster grill - crank the blower, select Defrost, full cold with the AC on. On a hot day - Recirc is always colder than osa.

The only time AC is disabled during these modes is if the outside air temperature is below a certain value (like around 5 deg C).
