Diode Light Sensor
Things to know in order to find the right relay?
I'm making a proximity sensor circuit and want to use a relay to trigger lights or toy motors or something.
My question is what do I need to know to figure out which relay I need.
I know the voltage and amperage(9v -400mA) of my signal and a rough idea of my main load (one hundred LEDs or 4-5 toy motors). How exactly do manufacturers call these ratings and is there a standard naming convention for relays similar to transistors and diodes? I can;t order online so local electronic shop will have to do.
Relays have separate ratings for the coil and the contacts. Typically the coil will have a voltage and current spec. Also it will be specified if it is intended to be used on AC. You can use an AC coil on DC but not the reverse. The contacts will have a separate rating of voltage and current. You also need to know if the relay is intended for continuous use. Some relays like an automobile horn relay will overheat if left on for long periods.

where might I get a low cost DC light sensor to wire up a dusk/dawn light?
I'm trying to figure out what kind of diode I would need to create a dusk/dawn sensor for a battery powered light. maybe some hints as to how to build it would help alot too.
You can try Home Depot or Lowes or a remote chance @Radio Shack and for info online you can try to DIY.com.
