Diode Lasers What is the temporal coherence length of HeNe and Diode Lasers?
I'm doing a holography lab in school, and was wondering which type of laser would give a longer temporal coherence. We are currently using a 40mW HeNe laser, but I was wondering if a diode laser would function better.
Helium-Neon lasers have a longer coherence length, 2-3 meters versus a few millimeters for Diodes.

I dont want to waste my dvd burner and i want a laser diode ( a powerful one) to make my own laser is there anything else that has a strong laser diode that is capable of burning through things if possible from a cd player or ps2 or something not expensive that i can waist or is there any place i can buy a cheap powerful laser diode by itself
Nah! It will be cheaper to buy an internal DVD burner and use it as is, or take the laser out.
