Inrush Current help!!?

I use a 11.1V 2200mAh Li-Po battery. It has a nasty high inrush current of 110 amps
I have researched ways to reduce inrush current. Most using NTC thermistor.
Thermistor in my application isnt suitable.

1. What other ways that are simple to reduce inrush current not involving complex circuits, just using simple components such as diodes, capacitors and resistors only.

2. How to calculate the optimum resistor value to use in series with the battery to reduce current surge? Do i place one resistor at each terminal of the battery or just at the positive terminal?

Actually its the inrush current to my voltage regulator, not the charging inrush current. When i connect the battery , the voltage regulator LM7809 sparked loudly and just stopped working.There was a nasty burn smell, it spoiled my IC too. Resistor and capacitors are as rugged as they can be not taking any damage.

Do you mean inrush current while charging?
Any good charger circuit has circuitry to limit the charge current to the correct value, which in this case would be less than 1 amp.

If you want to use a resistor, it's value depends on the voltage of the charger. Subtract the charger voltage from the minimum battery voltage when discharged. Divide that by the maximum current to get the resistance value. Multiply the voltage difference by the current to get the wattage needed.

Only one resistor is needed, in series with either terminal.

If you provide full details, I could come up with a better solution.

You had something wired incorrectly, otherwise you would not have had the spark and damage. I have done this many many times, and no problems.

Check your circuit carefully. Possibly you need a heat sink. But that regulator is protected against overcurrent or over temperature, in either case it shuts down. The only way to pop it is to apply either a reversed voltage to the input or too high a voltage (over 35 volts).

It may pay to use a 1 amp fuse, that may protect the circuit next time. But maybe not, depends on the fuse and on the circumstances.

PS, why use a 9 volt regulator to charge an 11 volt battery?
