Diode Gig

Which guitar amp should I buy?
I'm looking for a new guitar amp (preferably valve) that is capable of gigging at small venues and is good for mainly alternative rock and pop punk. It needs to have decent foot-switchable clean and overdrive channels and be available for under £400 used.
I have 2 main options at the moment:
Marshall JCM 900 100W Head - Used - £300-350
Peavey ValveKing VK100 Head - Used - £200-250
I would use both amps with a Marshall 1922 2x12 Cabinet - Used - £100-150
I thought that the Marshall would be the obvious choice but I have heard that it has an almost solid-state diode based pre-amp compared to the Peavey's all valve pre-amp. I was also concerned that the Marshall would not be as versatile as the Peavey in terms of different styles it is capable of playing in.
Any recommendations?
I'm running a JCM 900 at the moment, when i was looking for an amp I was also interested in the Valve King. I decided to go with the Marshall due to how solid they are, in my experience Marshall's can be dropped, you can play as loud as you want and they will be as strong as ever.
They are my thoughts and your's or someone else may vary if you have a go of them. Now you have other options that are still in your price range. Try having a look for some:
- Peavey Triple XXX
- Bugera 1990
These amp's are all quite similar in sound and price, it would definatly be worth your while to do some more research on these amplifiers on places such as Youtube so that you are able to hear the tone that they produce.
Well after all of that ill give you my opinion I guess. (I will still give you choice)
1. If you are a fan of the Marshall sound then it is definatly worth spending the extra hundred or so on a JCM 900, quality is what you pay for.
2.If you would like to save some money and still get the tone of a Marshall go for the Bugera 1990 as it delivers power, tone and quality that can't be beaten in its price range.
I hope this answer has helped you in your decision.
