Diode 1n914

is there a diode similar to a 1N914?

the only electronic store here doesn't have it, is this a rare type? i need about five of these on guitar effects pcb's, are there similar diodes that will do just the same?

It's nothing special, but some components just go "out of fashion" and something else replaces them in the popularity charts. The current "#1" small signal diode is the 1N4148 not the 1N914.

From memory (I haven't checked the specifications) a 914 is a bit beefier than a 4148 in terms of max current and reverse voltage. If it is being used to carry the audio signals on a battery-powered effects pcb, that doesn't matter and a 4148 will work fine.

If the 914 is part of a simple power supply, or protecting the rest of the circuit from a battery connected the wrong way round, a 1N4007 might be a better choice. A 4007 will handle more current continuously than a 914, but it's physically bigger and has thicker leads than a 4148, so you might need to do some minor surgery to the circuit board to use it.

Can anyone tell me what kind of functions do these Diodes do? And if you have any idea what I can make with them ( I have stuff like multimeter, wires, so dont wrry about the voltage) + home stuff.
