Cw Lasers

Where does the energy go during destructive interference of two parallel beams?
For instance, when a Mach-Zender EO modulator is stuck in front of a CW laser, and one leg of the MZ is operated to produce 180 deg out-of-phase shifting, the resulting beam is zero after re-combination. So where did the energy go?
Ah, well you see, the word 'destructive' is a bit misleading. Destructive interference does not result in the destruction of anything.
Let's think of the light being emitted from the lasers as waves. Destructive interference occurs when the crest of one wave overlaps with the trough of the next wave
like this xxxxxxx ~
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ~
(Sorry about the really bad diagram!!)
Now interference simply refers to the RESULTANT wave.
This means that there appears to be destruction because the positive disturbance of one wave cancels with the negative disturbance of the other wave (the disturbances add by the principle of superposition)
It is important to realise that the waves themselves have not been destroyed!! They still exist and they are still propagating.
So in answer to your question, the energy does not go anywhere. It stays where it was - in the waves!
I'll say it once more to make sure you get it - the resulting beam contains two waves, but because they are exactly in antiphase, there is no RESULTANT wave. (i.e. the effects of one wave are cancelled with the effects of the other.)

Lasers in Prosthodontics $149.76 Lasers are now part of our lives in many ways. They are in our computer printers and compact disc players, they record prices at the supermarket check out, they light up rock concerts, and they guide weapons and measure distances between planes, and now they are beginning to blaze a new trial in dentistry. The need to integrate new technology into our daily activities has become a key factor to success is an increasingly demanding business market. The scientific methods and artistic details prescribed for reconstructive dentistry are well documented. The addition of laser to reconstructive process can heighten the art and science of this multidisciplinary field. The current use of lasers in reconstructive dentistry fixed, removable, implant, maxillofacial prosthesis] encompasses a wide variety of soft and hard tissue procedures. Excimer Lasers $890.57 Among the many intense light sources, excimer lasers have a unique set of properties that place them at the forefront of tooling for material processing. Their extreme versatility means that they can be used in many areas of materials science and medicine. But three conditions need to be fulfilled in order that their versatility be truly appreciated and exploited: the characteristics and limitations of the sources must be known; the basic excimer laser processes should become reasonably widely known; and problems in search of a solution should be clearly identified. Excimer Lasers covers all three of these points in an instructive and logical way. Probably for the first time, both instrumental and fundamental aspects of excimer laser interaction with matter are presented sidebyside, with examples drawn from the widest range of materials. The articles gathered here are tutorial in their nature, thus making them suitable for a wide readership, from recent graduates and postgraduate students to those established scientists entering the field, all of whom could not find a better, nor more authoritative work with which to start their reading. Pulsed Lasers vs. CW Lasers: Disadvantage of Pulsed Pointers
I'm sure this question was asked a million times before , but is the laser in a laser mouse dangerous?
I recently bought myself a logitech G500 mouse and the following was on the important information section: Class 1 laser product , Emission of parallel beam of infrared user invisible light , Maximum power of 716 Microwatts CW , wavelenght range 832-865nm. Another thing that worries me is that I have a lcd screen that is a mirror like finish. Should I be worried that the beam can be reflected of that?
dont be worried just dont look directly at it.
