Cutting Edge

What are the most cutting edge ideas and problems in your religion or spirituality?
The most cutting edge ideas in pantheism would seem to me to be related to the technologies we are developing in regards to alternative energy sources, conservation, etc, in order to stop the progress of global warming, which is the main problem not just faced by pantheism, but by everyone.....
I'm no expert in this field, but aside from developing bio fuels from algae and vegetables, and solar energy and wind power, I actually heard of a company that is developing solar "paint" for cars, so that the car would supposedly absorb enough energy through its PAINT to run it! Wow! That would be way cool...
There are dozens of technologies being developed as we speak, and some smart kid is going to come up with a brilliant idea, just like the ideas behind the telephone and the Internet and Natural Selection, in order to get us out of this dependence on fossil fuels.
To some who might wonder what alternative energies and solar paint powered cars has to do with my spirituality, I invite you to look into pantheism, for this is a spirituality which embraces our planet in reverence and love, our one and only home, and our home is in trouble, largely due to the problems we all know about, energy, pollution and golbal warming.
And that leads me to the other, more "spiritual" edge/idea that I have found to be connected with pantheism. I know that many people of many different faiths also embrace a love for our world as much as we pantheists do, and they feel it and embrace it in addition to the religious faith that they have, and that the two are not mutually exclusive.
In other words, pantheism is creeping in on the perceptions and beliefs of people of all faiths and of no faith, and this is where pantheism is itself a cutting edge. I read an article that I stumbled across in which a Fundamentalist preacher chastized his flock for not doing more to protect the environment. To my amazement and joy, the preacher waxed poetical over the beauties in nature, and although he did attribute theri creation to the Christian god, it didn't seem to matter, as long as he and his followers were willing and eager to do their share to protect the Earth.
The funniest part of the article was when the preacher said something like, "we can't leave this important work to people like pagans, letting them get credit for doing what WE should be doing, and they are already way ahead of us in protecting the environment..... "etc etc....
cracked me up.
I'm all, who CARES who cleans up the planet and protects Her, the important thing is that we DO SOMETHING, all of us.
That is where I see pantheism present everywhere, although not called that by those who are acting in a very pantheistic fashion.
Ah, ...."...that which we call a rose, by any other name, would smell as sweet..."
keeeeeeeuwul question!

The Cutting Edge
How far has Artificial Intelligence progressed? What would be considered cutting edge right now?
AIs that I have seen tend to act intelligent rather than truly understand. They can mimic language by following patterns created by smart programmers rather than 'learning' the language. There is a group of thought that says we should strive to first make an AI that evolves like a baby and train it into adulthood. What has been the biggest road block so far?
Among other things, a baby has more "RAM" when it's born then any computer ever contemplated. And human memory locations are multi-associative. IOW, while a computer cell can be on or off (those are the only 2 choices), a human brain cell can be off, just a trifle on, somewhat on, etc. It can have an almost infinite number of states - some of which cause some synapses to fire, some of which cause other synapses to fire. Computer memory cells are read out one at a time - they can't directly influence other cells.
What this means is that 1K of human brain cells would need femtobytes (or more) of computer memory cells to emulate it. And human brains have femtobytes of cells, so the amount of RAM to produce a human-like computer "brain" would probably approach the number manufactured so far. (Which would be totally unrealistic - the delays in a network like that would make it "think" slower than a tree.).
We may be able to get close to useful AI (not true understanding, but something that can follow patterns fast enough to produce the same result) with quantum computers. But it'll be at least a few decades before you can get one at Best Buy.
