Can I use my Action tec GT701R (DSL) modem as a router?
My Action Tec DSL modem has two connections for a PC. (An ethernet, and a USB). I want to set up another computer to "share" my DSL connection. Can I simply use the USB connection to connect the second PC? (My existing computer uses the ethernet). If this won't work, where can I find out how to hook up, and use my Nvidia nforce networking controller card ?(packet scheduler miniport). More specifically, I want to know how to make the physical connections, between the computers, and if I will have to install software to network the putes. (If I already have the card, shouldn't the software have been included?) The second computer is running windows 98 2nd edition, the main is running XP professional media center edition SP2. Any help would be greatly appreciated, since I'm computer illiterate!
the modem has a USB and an ethernet but you probably have to use 1 or the other, i don't think you can use both at the same time.
If the device is definately a modem or bridge then no because you need a router to route between the 2 devices if its not a router it can't route. Also a router has a DHCP Server and does NAT a modem doesn't it bridges the connection and your PC gets a ssigned the public IP. and you can't assign it to 2 devices

How should I power AC loads from a DC battery?
I recently built a solar battery from a solar panel, a 12V/12Ah battery, and a controller unit. The controller has a 4A/125V fuse installed in it. I hacked up a cigarette outlet (not sure what they are called, that's what I've always heard; they are the 12v DC outlets found in cars) and connected it to the controller, so I could plug in gadgets through that.
I first tried a DC-AC power inverter that I use in my car, but when I plugged that in, as well as my laptop through that, the fuse blew. I'm assuming the power requirement from the inverter is the cause, as my laptop's power brick pulls 1.5A.
Anyway, that's my story. The question is, where do I go from here? I found a different inverter that might work, as it is rated for an output of 1.8A (i-Tec Electronics T2022 Power Inverter). But I'm not sure, as it doesn't say how many amps it takes to run (I can provide at most 4). So I could really use some advice.
The problem seems to be that you're trying to pull too much power through the 4A fuse, The 1.5 amps your power brick draws is 165 watts at 110 volts. The 4A fuse in your controller can only deliver 48 watts (12V times 4A). You need to put as many watts into the converter as you take out plus a little more for circuit inefficiencies. This is 14 amps on the 12 volt side.
Can you find a 12 volt power cord for your laptop? This might be the best way to go.
