Burning Lasers Do all 200mw Lasers have the same burning power?
i am wondering if a green 200mw laser will have more burning power than a 200mw red laser? which is better to get? which can burn objects the fastest?
all else being equal,
an object that absorbs all visible light will heat about equally given the same number of watts of illumination from each laser.
an object will heat faster if it can absorb (and not transmit or reflect) the particular colour of light you illuminate it with.
so a translucent green filter will absorb red better, and heat faster with red laser light,
and a translucent red filter will absorb green better and heat faster with green light.
note, though, that each photon of green light has more energy than a photon of red light, and the beam width of the green laser can be made just a bit sharper, as well.
