How to make a cheap practical Sonic Screwdriver?
I'm trying to make some sort of practical sonic screwdriver, but don't know much about electronics.
I've been told that there is a way for it to open doors or tho it would be destructive. They said something about inserting a blue laser diode instead of the black light LED (in the toy sonic screwdriver), then it can open certain locks. Simple locks, cheap locks.
Also would there be anyway to inset some sort of chip that would tune into the signal of lets say your television and turn it off.

Screws, and nuts can come undone under vibration, so what you want to do is find a way of inducing vibration into the mechanical part. If you can pump sufficient vibration into a part, to overcome damping, then the part will tend to loosen. One way of doing this is with a impact wrench

A Sonic screwdriver would function much the same, except it wouldn't need to be physically connected to the part, but instead simply send a directed beam of sound at an appropriate frequency into the part. Probably best if the frequency is set to the resonant frequency of the part to be loosened. Should be easy enough to use a 555 timer to create an adjustable frequency source. You then need an amplifier and output device that will put out high intensity sound of that frequency (And that's the difficult part)
Only way I see of turning a TV off(without damaging it) via a sonic screwdriver, would be to hit the resonant frequency of the off button. Put enough energy into the switch button, and it'll physically flip state to off.

laser diode? Hah! Sorry I thought it was supposed to a SONIC screwdriver, rather than a "light" screwdriver. But given sufficient light intensity, and appropriate frequency/modulation of light(depends largely of reflectivity of the material), then that too would be able to send power into what it was pointed at. Every photons (particles of light) exert tiny, but a measurable push. and by turning the light source on/off you could in THEORY induce a vibration.
