Beam Splitters
What happens when two photons of same energy and direction, but opposite phase superposes each other?
I suppose they will cancel each other (opposite phase) and, in that case their energy will be lost, which violates the energy conservation law. How do you explain that?

(I don't believe in what they say in this video, I just liked the experiment it describes, not their conclusions.)

when two waves of equal amplitude and wavelength that are 180-degrees (half a wavelength) out of phase with each other meet, they are not actually annihilated. All of the photon energy present in these waves must somehow be recovered or redistributed in a new direction, according to the law of energy conservation (photons are not capable of self-annihilation). Instead, upon meeting, the photons are redistributed to regions that permit constructive interference, so the effect should be considered as a redistribution of light waves and photon energy rather than the spontaneous construction or destruction of light.

problem with hydraulic log splitter?
I have a mignon hydraulic log splitter which to load on to a trailer i tied the ram to a beam in the garage. i used the ram to lift the splitter and put it on the trailer. the hydraulics seemed to work in reverse just after that. it then behaved normally for an hour before bursting the oil return hose. any ideas lease
Without seeing an hydraulic circuit diagram it's difficult to diagnose the fault but required pressure on the ram return side will be far less than on the downstroke (splitter) side under normal operating conditions and there's probably no relief valve on the return side.
By using the latter to lift the machine you've overpressurised it, bursting has probably solved the problem somewhat drastically though.
Best replace the hose and vent the air from both sides of the cylinder. Check for leakage of the piston rod seals (where the rod comes out of the cylinder).
