Arm Laser Beam

Is it possible for a laser beam to kill someone?
Or is this just sci-fi nonsense? Are there any existing high powered lasers, such as industrial CO2 lasers in the kw range, that could drill holes in or slice up a hapless victim (this assumes the person would be unable to get out of the way of the beam, tied down kinda like 007 in the old James Bond movie "Goldfinger")? Would it cut arms and legs off like the lightsabers in "Starwars"?
In a laser processing shop where I worked a man had a fingertip completely vaporized by a 5kw laser, and another worker got a 300 watt YAG beam all the way thru the hand, so it would seem plausible.....(these were focused beams; unfocused beams just burned people)
What about weapons-grade lasers powered in the 100+ kw range? What would a beam from one of those do to someone misfortunate enough to be in the path of a focused beam?
if it can burn through the hand, it can burn through the chest, the only question is how long will it take.
FYI, Military are working on putting a laser into Boeing 747 to shoot down ICBM's from tens of miles away. I am pretty sure this would fry a human in no time. The only catch is that it takes a Boeing 747 to carry that baby.

Beam: The Race to Make the Laser $75.47 In 1954, Charles Townes invented the lasers microwave cousin, the maser. The next logical step was to extend the same physical principles to the shorter wavelengths of light, but the idea did not catch fire until October 1957, when Townes asked Gordon Gould about Goulds research on using light to excite thallium atoms. Each took the idea and ran with it. The independentminded Gould sought the fortune of an independent inventor; the professorial Townes sought the fame of scientific recognition. Townes enlisted the help of his brotherinlaw, Arthur Schawlow, and got Bell Labs into the race. Gould turned his ideas into a patent application and a milliondollar defense contract. They soon had company. Ali Javan, one of Towness former students, began pulling 90hour weeks at Bell Labs with colleague Bill Bennett. And far away in California a bright young physicist named Ted Maiman became a very dark horse in the race. While Schawlow proclaimed that ruby could never make a laser, Maiman slowly convinced himself it would. As others struggled with recalcitrant equipment and military secrecy, Maiman built a tiny and elegant device that fit in the palm of his hand. His ruby laser worked the first time he tried it, on May 16, 1960, but afterwards he had to battle for acceptance as the man who made the first laser. Beam is a fascinating tale of a remarkable and powerful invention that has become a symbol of modern technology. Does he like me? We met at a job orientation...?
We met at orientation when I told him he looked familiar. He struck me as kind of shy, but his demeanor beamed confidence. We were trained together on our first 10 hour day. We spent a lot of time together, and we got some background info on eachother. I guess you could say we flirted a good amount. At one point, we were brought into the Laser Tag arena, and told that it was haunted, I automatically clutched onto his arm, and he gladly accepted. We stayed that way for a good 5-10mins. At the end of our first shift, he hestiantly gave me a hug before he left. Even though I feel like I initated a lot of the flirting, I feel like we had a good connection. I've worked with him about 5 times since then. We speak everytime we see each other. When we are around other people he doesn't speak to me much. It seems like I get attention from every guy except him. Is he intimidated, or not interested? Does it sound like just sees me as a friend or a potiential gf?
Well, if I was him I'd certainly be thinking that the Laser tag arena could make for some kinky sex.
