Antenna Diode Circuit
Antenna Diode Circuit
I want to make a battery less radio (known in early days as crystal radio) with Just one diode. Will it work?

I dont want a tuner (just to keep things bare minimum). So I avoid the coil and capacitor (tuner). Which means this radio will pickup all the frequencies, which is fine. This means circuit will be an antenna, a diode, then headphones ( in that order, in series) connected to ground. How long antenna will have to be. Also, will this work ?

Depends on what you mean by "work". You will get a very soft hiss in the headphones. The antenna should be at least 21 cm, but the longer the better.

No tuner = get all stations at once. But really, your antenna will act as a broad tuner.

Inductively Coupled Antenna Systems

Inductively Coupled Antenna Systems

Recently, a growing interest in wireless powering and charging of mobile devices such as smartphones or laptops has emerged. Typically, the energy is transferred from a sending antenna to a receiving antenna via magnetic fields, which is known from the transformer principle. For achieving high efficiencies while allowing for possible variations in spatial positioning, appropriate antenna systems for such inductive power transfer applications must be designed and optimized carefully. In this work, the physical relevant properties of the antennas are extracted by means of specialized numerical techniques. First, some fundamental concepts of electromagnetic phenomena are reviewed while focusing on quasistatic conditions for Maxwells equations. After presenting the basic functionality of inductive power transfer systems, the Partial Element Equivalent Circuit (PEEC) method is derived as an efficient tool for inductive antenna system design. The presented modeling approach is confirmed via measurements and reference simulations for a system of printed spiral coils, in which both fast simulation time and high accuracy are the main achievements. A demonstration of a crystal radio - Part 1

Science Teachers &/or Electrical Engineers! Please explain this?

here is a link to a schematic of a simple crystal radio.

Can you explain how each part works and what it does (antennae, tune circuit, diode, etc.) in a way that a fourteen-year-old can understand? My dad is an electrical engineer, but he hasn't taught in years and can't explain it simply enough for me. Thanks!

the antenna (the triangle up at the top left pointing down with a line through it) is the antenna. this is what actually receives the signal waves from the air. it consists of a single piece of bare wire,

the curly thing is called an inductor or choke coil. these are measured in Henrys and microHenry's, or H's and uH's for short, and consist of wraps of wire, generally around a core, usually a ferrite one, but can also not have a core, in which case they'r called air-cored. this has different taps on it, or i guess you could call them splits or splices (basically picture a Y), and which one of these the antenna is connected to decides what frequency you tune into.

the little concentric lines in the bottom left mean this gets connected to ground.

the curve with the circles is a headphone in this circuit, probably a very high impedance one (usually ~3000 ohms i believe)

lastly, the triangle pointing left with the line at the pointy end is a diode. this only lets current through one way. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diode)

and, of course, the lines show the path of current flow.

hope this helps.. if you have any more questions email me and ill do my best to help you out
