5mw Green Laser Burn

question about my green laser?

Ok, I have a 532nm, 5mw green laser. Is there any way possible with house hold items that I can modify this to burn things? Any thing at all?

It's possible, I guess, but probably not.

5mW is probably enough to cause damage to the light sensors in your eye, but that's about it. One thing that you could try is to take a balloon and cover an area of it with black marker pen. Then take the laser and focus the beam down onto the blackened area. If enough light is absorbed (and not re-radiated) then the balloon may burst. That's using the laser to heat things up.

You can create a focus with any sort of positive lens - try a magnifying glass or (possibly) reading glasses.

The problem you have is that 5mW is just not enough power to do interesting stuff with.

How strong is a green laser pointer 5mW 532nm?

Does anyone know if there is anything I can burn with this amount of power. I know its weak but I want to know what can I burn. Or if it can't burn through stuff tell me how much mW do you need to burn stuff, how strong it is, and a link of it so I can see the price. I'm interested in buying one as a gift.

its 5 mega watts strong (at that power, I don't think it will burn anything except for your retina)
