High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles YAG (Yard Auxiliary, General) training vessels are wooden boats built between 1954 and 1958, and based at CFB Esquimalt in Esquimalt, British Columbia, Canada. The vessels are used for training Canadian Forces regular naval officers, naval reservists, and members of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets in basic seamanship, vessel handling, and navigation. According to the Department of National Defence, in 2000, a total of 1830 personnel were deployed on the YAGs for a total of 585 days and steamed over 25,000 nautical miles (46,000 km) in support of training. YAGs displace 70 tonnes, and are divided into five major belowdecks compartments: right forward, a chain locker, then the forward cabin, containing the galley, one of the heads (washrooms) and the officers eating and sleeping areas, as well as the gyroscopic (gyro) compass. Laser bonding is a marking technique that uses lasers and other forms of radiant energy to bond an additive marking substance to a wide range of substrates. Invented in 1997, this patent protected technology delivers permanent marks on metals, glass and ceramic parts for a diverse range of industrial and manual applications, ranging from aerospace to the awards engraving industries. It differs from the more widely known techniques of laser engraving and laser ablation in that it is an additive process, adding material to the substrate to form the marking instead of removing it as in those techniques. For metals, parts can be permanently marked with high contrast, high resolution marks for logos, barcoding, identification and serialization purposes, without damage to the substrate. With glass and ceramics, complex surfaces can be decorated or marked and the traditional firing process replaced by a laser, with its permanent bond fired on in seconds. Laser bonding has been achieved by Nd:YAG, CO2 laser, Fiber laser and Diodepumped solidstate laser and can be made by other forms of radiant energy. Laser bonding is often referred to as CerMark, CerMarked, or CerMarking Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 92 Publication Date: 2010/04/23 Language: English Dimensions: 9.02 x 5.98 x 0.22 inches

Okay, just about everyone has a red laser pointer. Heck, we even sell a fine one here at ThinkGeek. But, we're pretty sure you want to be a superior geek - and doing it with a green laser is the way to go. This pointer is significantly brighter (about 50 times) than a red laser pointer and because of its unusual color it is much more noticeable. I mean come on, a 532 nm green laser wavelength is obviously superior to a laughable 650 nm red laser wavelength. And unlike a red laser, the green beam itself can be seen in mid-air in dark conditions, not just the laser beam dot. This allows the green laser pointer to be used for pointing to star constellations (skypointing) and also just generally look cool as hell. The green laser beam dot can be seen at much greater distances than with a red laser pointer. Since green direct injection laser diodes aren't readily available, this pointer is based on the use of Diode Pumped Solid State Frequency Doubled (DPSSFD) laser technology. A high power IR laser diode at 808 nm pumps a tiny block of Nd:YVO4 generating light at 1,064 nm which feeds a KTP intracavity frequency doubler crystal to produce the green beam at 532 nm. Features of this unit include: Very bright green laser at 532 nm wavelength Output power of Range of approximately 9,000 ft (2600 m) in darkness 1.1 mm beam diameter at source Momentary push button switch Solid, heavy duty construction Constant wave output (as opposed to pulse output) Takes 2 "AAA" batteries (not included) Can be used for skypointing, projection on low clouds, signaling, highlighting potential explosives Dimensions: 5.6" x .5" dia 90-day warranty Available in Black or Silver color Interested in quantity discounts or custom logo imprinting? We report laser desorption from a Room Temperature Ionic Liquid (RTIL) as a novel source for time of flight mass spectrometry. We use the 2nd harmonic of an Nd: YAG laser to deposit intensities of 150 MW/cm2 via backside illumination onto our RTIL desorption sample. A microstructured metal grid situated on top of a glass microscope slide coated with RTIL serves as our desorption sample. The RTIL we use, 1Butyl, 3Methylimidazolium Hexafluorophosphate, remains liquid at pressures below 108 torr. The use of liquid desorption sample allows for improved surface conditions, homogeneity and sample life as compared to Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization (MALDI) techniques. Our desorption technique is also unique as it allows the study of both multiphoton and acoustic desorption processes within the same time of flight spectra. Our technique yields intrinsically high resolution, low noise data. We observe differences between ion species in their preference for desorption by a particular desorption method. Specifically, we observe desorption solely by acoustic means of an entire RTIL molecule adducted with an RTIL cation. Finally, we report the applicability of this technique for the desorption of biomolecules Author: Harris, Peter Ronald Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 112 Publication Date: 2011/09/11 Language: English Dimensions: 9.69 x 7.44 x 0.23 inches

Different Diode Packaging Type Are all 1-2 watt 808nm 9mm laser diodes the same?
A while back I bought these 2 watt 808nm diodes http://www.amazon.com/POWER-Burning-Cutting-Laser-Diode/dp/B0036IRETS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1309485592&sr=8-2
But just recently I bought a 1 watt diode off ebay with same package size and everything. The specs for the 2 watts said 1.5 amps at 3v (Which I highly doubt could supply enough for 2 watt output). The 1 watt one said greater than 1.4 amps at 3v. I've noticed that some people market dlp blue projector diodes as 1 watt and others allow for more current to be pumped into them and market them as 2 watts. So could the same thing be going on here where the diodes I bought are the same type and just marketed at different powers? Also would anybody be able to give an estimation of how much current it would take at 3v to push one of theses diodes to 1, 2, and 3 watts. (With cooling and heat sinking of course!) Thank you in advance!
Parts you get on Ebay are suspect. It could be they are picking up manufacturing rejects. So every one may look the same but act quite different. At 3V it takes .3A to make 1 W. It takes .66 amps to make 2 watts. It takes 1 amp to make 3 watts etc. P = I*V.

Food packaging materials have traditionally been chosen to avoid unwanted interactions with the food. During the past two decades a wide variety of packaging materials have been devised or developed to interact with the food. These packaging materials, which are designed to perform some desired role other than to provide an inert barrier to outside influences, are termed active packaging. The benefits of active packaging are based on both chemical and physical effects. Active packaging concepts have often been presented to the food industry with few supporting results of background research. This manner of introduction has led to substantial uncertainty by potential users because claims have sometimes been based on extrapolation from what little proven information is available. The forms of active packaging have been chosen to respond to various food properties which are often unrelated to one another. For instance many packaging requirements for post harvest horticultural produce are quite different from those for most processed foods. The object of this book is to introduce and consolidate information upon which active packaging concepts are based. Scientists, technologists, students and regulators will find here the basis of those active packaging materials, which are either commercial or proposed. The book should assist the inquirer to understand how other concepts might be applied or where they should be rejected. Author: Rooney/ Rooney, M. L. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Childresistant packaging or CR packaging is special packaging used to reduce the risk of children ingesting dangerous items. This is often accomplished by the use of a special safety cap. It is required by regulation for prescription drugs, overthecounter medications, pesticides, and household chemicals. In some juridictions, unit packaging such as blister packs is also regulated for child safety. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has stated in a press release that There is no such thing as childproof packaging. Integrated circuit (Ie was first developed in 1950s in response to demands in miniaturized electronics. Today ICs are at the core of a modern digital system. If chips could be used in unmodified form packaging would be unnecessary, thus cheaper. A tiny speck of dust can hinder its functionality. Packaging is the final stage in semiconductor device fabrication, which places bare dies inside a protective package, providing pins for external connections. Ultra Thin Small Outline Package is primarily intended to provide increased capacity and functionality in the design of processors, memories amongst others. The most challenging feature of small outline transistor is their small size, meaning effective package diameter is on the same order of magnitude as the board thickness. In this work we have analyzed reliability of ultra small packages under different test conditions and investigated for common failures under various failure analysis methods. Of the different categories of small thin (ST) packages, ST553, ST563 and ST953 were studied. A nonlinear relation between current and voltage for schottky resonant tunneling diode is used. A general form of equation similar to VanDer Pol equation is obtained. A Resonant tunneling diode(RTD) has a negative differential resistance that means when the voltage increases the current decreases. This property is very useful for oscillators manufacture. Nonlinear transmission lines is considered to show that it canbe used in oscillators and to show that it can reshape the sinusoidal signals to othershapes by using OrCad and mathematica programming. In recent years there has been an increasing demand for lowT packaging technologies to vacuum seal MEMS devices at the wafer level. When caps are fabricated using standard surface micromachining techniques, the need for wafer bonding alignment equipment is eliminated. This book presents the different processing steps of a new surface micromachining module for MEMS packaging at temperatures 180C based on electroplating and resist sacrificial layers. Sacrificial etch holes are situated above the device allowing shorter release times. Analytical and FEA methods are used to understand, to predict and to optimise the mechanical response of the membrane. The sealing material is deposited by a selective deposition technique to avoid material where this is not desired. Sealing happens by fluxless reflow, giving the freedom of choosing P and atmosphere. The sealing layer is In because it allows a low thermal budget sealing process. The conditions that govern fluxless sealing are addressed and tailored. The thermal profile is one of the key variables that significantly impacts the wetting behaviour of liquid metal. The presented work represents the first time used sealing technique. Tunable devices are key components for various applications, such as wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical networks, optical interconnects, spectroscopy, infrared imaging and optical sensing. Various structures and designs have been reported for different applications. Micromechanically actuated devices have intrinsic advantages such as large dynamic range, fast tuning speed, a simple control mechanism, small size, cost effectiveness and process compatibility with other optoelectronic devices. This book discusses design, fabrication and application of monolithically tunable devices done in GaAs. The devices, including filters, detectors and vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELS), were designed for applications in communications, IR imaging and biosensing. Among some of the results to be shown are a torsional tunable filter, which provided a record tuning range of more than 100nm around 1550nm, and a high sensitivity biosensor using VCSEL, with sensitive to proteins in the femtoMol range. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Diodes were a Canadian punk/new wave band formed in 1976. They released five albums: Diodes (1977), Released (1979), ActionReaction (1980), Survivors (1982), and Time/Damage Live 1978 (2010). One of the first Toronto bands playing that style of music, The Diodes helped foster the scene in the city. Along with manager Ralph Alfonso, The Diodes opened the first Canadian punk nightclub in 1977, called Crash n Burn, where many of the citys punk bands at that time played. The first band to play the club was The Nerves, on a double bill with The Diodes. The club was closed at the end of the summer of 1977 due to complaints by the Liberal Party of Ontario (the principal tenants of the building). The introduction of innovative light sources, fibre laser sources and light emitting diodes, is opening unexpected perspectives into optical techniques and is promising new exciting applications in the field of biomedicine. Lasers and Current Optical Techniques in Biology aims to provide an overview of light sources, together with an extensive and authoritative description of the optical techniques in biomedicine. This book is designed to give biomedical researchers a strong feel for the capability of physical approaches, promote new interdisciplinary interests and persuade more practitioners to take advantage of optical techniques. Current developments in a variety of optical techniques, including NearInfra Red Spectroscopy, and traditional and advanced fluorescence techniques are covered, ranging from those that are becoming common practice to those that need much more experimentation before they can be accepted as real breakthroughs. Further topics include optical coherence tomography and its variations, polarised light imaging and, principle laser and lamp sources a usually fragmentary topic, often dispersed among specialist publications. The wide range of topics covered make Lasers and Current Optical Techniques in Biology of interest to a diverse range of scientific communities. Chaotic semiconductor laser diodes can be used to precipitate secure communications schemes via synchronisation of two such lasers. This book begins by extending the bifurcation analysis of Dubbeldam and Krauskopf to dimensionless equations derived from the Yamada model with terms representative of spontaneous emission and diffusion effects included. We show that the bifurcation diagram changes dramatically at a certain diffusion level, but that the region of selfpulsation is still delineated by the Hopf bifurcation curve. Other models which include recombination effects are also considered. The excitable region of the parameter space of the dimensionless equations derived from the Yamada model with diffusion effects neglected is considered, and approximations of the excitability threshold are derived. Finally, chaotic behaviour arising from sinusoidal modulation of the pump current is analysed. Lyapunov exponent calculations are supplemented with a return map analysis in order to distinguish between periodic motion and chaos as the modulation depth and frequency are varied.
