Among the many intense light sources, excimer lasers have a unique set of properties that place them at the forefront of tooling for material processing. Their extreme versatility means that they can be used in many areas of materials science and medicine. But three conditions need to be fulfilled in order that their versatility be truly appreciated and exploited: the characteristics and limitations of the sources must be known; the basic excimer laser processes should become reasonably widely known; and problems in search of a solution should be clearly identified. Excimer Lasers covers all three of these points in an instructive and logical way. Probably for the first time, both instrumental and fundamental aspects of excimer laser interaction with matter are presented sidebyside, with examples drawn from the widest range of materials. The articles gathered here are tutorial in their nature, thus making them suitable for a wide readership, from recent graduates and postgraduate students to those established scientists entering the field, all of whom could not find a better, nor more authoritative work with which to start their reading. Dragonlasers Hulk 150mW green laser FOR SALE
Will terrorirsts arm themselves with pens ?
Lancashire police have arrested a man for pointing a laser pen at a helicopter," which had the potential to cause a very serious accident" are these pens on general sale? if so, Why?
Laser pens or pointers to give them their correct term are like many things that are on sale for a specific purpose but are used by idiots for another purpose.
Similar to those annoying little motorbikes you see driving around in public parks (that are NOT supposed to be used on public land) laser pointers can be used for the wrong purpose bringing potential danger.
If the bloke that got arrested had caused the pilot of the helicopter to be temporarily blinded by the laser from his pointer then the consequences could have obviously been bad.
I suppose there will be lots of criticism of the Police for taking action on this when the no doubt 'have better things to do' but its a classic case of not being able to do right for doing wrong. If the helicopter had crashed as a result of this blokes stupidity then the Police would have been criticised for not doing anything.
Fiber Optics Physics homework help - index of refraction for fiber optics?
The glass core of an optical fiber has an index of refraction 1.62. The index of refraction of the cladding is 1.46. What is the maximum angle a light ray can make with the wall of the core if it is to remain inside the fiber?
For light ray can make with the wall of the core if it is to remain inside the fiber, the angle of contact at Fiber-Cladding surface should be greater that the criticle angle C, i.e., it should undergo TIR or Total Internal Reflection.
I should say it should be minimum angle because TIR happens when light ray travels only from denser medium to rarer medium. Under C light ray gets refracted. So to be inside angle must be > C, the criticle angle.
Criticle angle is given by, C= sin(-1)[nc/cf] ...(sine inverse of)
C=sin-1 (1.46/1.62)
C=sin-1(0.9012)
C=64* 19' ...(64 degree 19 minute)

What will be the value i mean... sorry i can express my self in english... thanks! i want to make 220 volts to stabilzed...
I'm guessing you mean 220 volts AC, and Zener diodes don't work like that. They break down and start passing current at a certain voltage, so they maintain that voltage as long as you don't pass too much current through them. They can be used in DC regulators.
If you mean 220 Volts DC, A resistor in series followed by a zener between the voltage and ground can be used to keep a constant voltage in a very low current supply but you'd need to build a real regulator for most applications.

need help fast please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
The voltage regulator circuit given below has a zener diode 1N4742A with VZ = 12V, IZT = 21mA, IZK = 0.25mA, and IZM = 76mA in the circuit along with R1 =120Ù and E = 28V, determine the minimum and maximum permissible values for load resistance RL
i have no idea where to begin. the circuit is as follows. E=28V which has R1=120ohm in series then in parallel the diode on one branch then RL on the other parallel branch then return to E. help if you can!!
The current in R1 is (28- 12)/120 = 133.3 ma
The minimum value of R load occurs when I zener is 0.25 ma
The load current is 133.08 ma (133.33 - 0.25)
So R load = 12/ 133.08 = 90.2 ohms
If R load is less than 90.2 ohms the voltage across R load drops below 12 volts
The maximum value of R load occurs when I zener is 76 ma
the load current is 133.33 -76 = 57.33 ma
R load = 12 volts/ 57.33 ma = 209.3 ohms
I've suffered from optical migraines periodically since I was 11. They last almost an hour, but the bad ones can immobilize me for up to half a day. For any other optical migraine sufferers, you know the symptoms: First it appears as though your "hands aren't really yours"-like slow motion. Then pieces of vision just disappear, and shimmering waterlike shapes appear, and the harder you try to concentrait or see something the worse it gets. Then comes possible knumbness of one side of your body, i.e, a hand and/or leg and arm. Followed by knumbness on one side of your mouth and/or your tongue. This lasts maybe 25 minutes. Then it's hard to talk. If it's a real bad one, your head begins to throb at this point (like a full blown migraine) and you begin to throw up. You may also be sensitive to light and/or sound.
Is this all normal for a "optical migraine"? My eye doctor said that's what they are, but I don't know.
DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANYTHING I CAN DO TO LESSEN THE SYMPTOMS?
Indeed I do!! I get them too and they're not pretty - good way to dissolve the humongous pain is to try eating something rich in Niacin - either cook up about a handfull of lean chicken or go have a bowl of weetbix!! Try it sweety, GOOD LUCK.

With a tagline that reads, "You don't have to go to Texas for a chainsaw massacre," this Spanish-Italian entry into slasher film territory went on to achieve a dubious distinction as one of the most tasteless films ever produced. The bloodshed opens in 1942 with a scene of a little boy axing his mother after her discovery of him piecing together a puzzle of a nude girl. Cut to 42 years later and the little ax-man has moved on to chainsaws as he begins buzzing coeds on the campus of a New England college. Police Lieutenant Bracken (Christopher George) and his partner arrive to investigate. They find a trail of dismembered bodies that happen to be missing some parts and a group of suspects including a shady dean of students (Edmund Purdom), an anatomy professor (Jack Taylor), and a monstrous caretaker (Paul Smith). Led by beautiful undercover cop Mary Riggs (Lynda Day-George) and student-stud Kendall (Ian Sera), the investigation leads everyone to the killer, who has just finished adding the final pieces to his human jigsaw puzzle. ~ Patrick Legare, Rovi
I am using the 25-piece Sakura brand Cay-Pas expressionist set of oil pastels. While this is a very nice set of oil pastels, my current frustration is that I am unable to create metallic shades necessary for a school project. I understand how to make something look metallic through optical mixing, but the colors provided do not lend themselves to different shades of grey very easily. Help!
Well, as long as you have black and white there's always a way to do it. As you might know, to make a basic metallic look you only need 2 shades of gray, black (or a really dark gray) and white.
But if you don't like using gray, you can try with shades of lillac instead, and the darker one (which would act as black) could be a deep purple, almost looking like dark blue.

Advanced LED technology has paved way for usage of light bars in emergency vehicles
Screaming siren with flashing amber or red light bar mounted on top of an ambulance indicates that the other vehicle drivers on the road need to make way or give enough space for the ambulance to reach the required destination as quickly as possible without any delay or interruptions so that the life can be saved.
Light bars play a major role in an emergency situation on roads and highways. The lighting devices are used for various purposes. Nowadays all emergency vehicles use lighting devices either on the exterior or interior part. Police cars and motorbikes can be seen using different types of light bars in their vehicles for patrol purpose especially during night times. If the light bars do not emit enough and bright light then the purpose of using these led light devices is a complete failure. The light bars should be bright and they should also function properly in the nighttime so that the vehicles can be viewed even from a far distance.
There has been regular improvement in the light emitting diode or LED technology due to the wide application of the light bars in police cars, snow plow trucks, fire rescuing vehicles and ambulances. The snowplow trucks mounted with light bars are extremely useful in clearing snow during heavy snowfall. The roads and highways will be covered with heaps and heaps of snow making transportation difficult. The roads get completely blocked sometimes and moving or driving the cars and trucks becomes difficult. Excess snow acts a barrier for vehicle mobility during snowfall. This is the time when snow plow trucks come into the picture and with the help of the light bars mounted on the vehicle snow can be cleared in early mornings or even nights.
For easier operation and quick installation process 100% digital technology is implemented in LED lights. Application of light bars in emergency response and service vehicles indicates high durability level, top quality and increased efficiency. The LED lighting devices comprise of different sizes, shapes and color combinations. The lighting devices undergo frequent changes or modifications due to the evolving needs in the emergency vehicles that are being used in the current generation. The flash patterns can be used as warning signals by police cars in a crime scene on the roads and highways to notify approaching vehicles to take a different route. Thus light bars come handy during such emergency situations especially during night times.
Mounting or fixing the light bars on the exterior or interior parts of an emergency vehicle is easy as users do not have to face the hassle of bulky wiring harness. Only two wires are needed to control the lights. All lighting devices that are manufactured guarantee long lasting life and durability, which indicates that the light bars need not be purchased quite often, and they are highly reliable. Intersection flash pattern and colors can be selected with the help of the LED control panel. The lighting devices are engineered with a polycarbonate and rugged triple sealed dome to resist UV damage. Light bars pride themselves for incorporating features such as style, performance and durability.
