Transistors Optical is anyone going to "invent" a true optical "transistor"?
since light transmission does not have the capacitance and inductance limitations of electric current, the potential for super fast computing is there if someone can invent a totally optical transistor. one my college prof.s talked about this 20 years ago, but it hasn't happened yet that I know of.
nobody's done it yet. i'm working on it. michal lipson's group at cornell made an all-optical switch last year, which is a digital type of behavior - on/off as opposed to a true "modulator" behavior. however this digital switching behavior is how transistors are largely used in digital circuits.

The pKa of carbon dioxide is 6.3 and 10.3. This does not convince me that CO2 is acid because 10.3 indicates me that it is very weak acid, perhaps a base.

This is a very weak acid.
One proton can be neutralized at pKa 6.3. This leaves
HCO3- The second proton is more difficult to remove - it comes off at pKa 10.3.

ok i just bought a laser pointer and i would like to make it burn things. is there a way i can make it stronger> i really dont want to take apart a dvd player!
Not really. You will not be able to increase the power output of the laser pointer sufficiently to be unsafe. If you could you run the risk of burning out the laser diode long before it will be able to ignite anything. Most laser pointers are very low power devices in the order of 50 mW (0.050 W) or so. In order to burn anything you probably need to up the power output to at least a couple of watts. That little pointer laser diode will fry long before it can produce that much power.
Get some clear glass beads from a craft store and glue them to a piece of cardboard in the shape of your name. Light them up with your laser.
Universal Fiber Optic I've lost a 12V 3200mA adapter, what does the 3200mA mean? Can I use another adapter from around the house?
The adapter belongs to a fiber optic Christmas tree. I have several adapters around the house but, don't know which one would be safe or what AD, DC, watt, or mA to look for. I'm not even sure what kind of universal adapter would work.
The 3200 mA is the max current that the adapter can handle. If its a DC adapter you need to use a DC adapter if its an AC adapter then you need to use an AC adapter. 3200mA is 3.2 Amps which is a considerable amount of power for a decoration you might have trouble finding one that will fit the nothing else I know of uses this much power other then maybe a laptop also if there is polarity markings those have to be heeded as well they should look like this -------_(0+<---------
