Helium Neon Gas Gas Mixture of Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Neon?
I have a series of questions like this one, and I want to make sure I get it right for my exam tomorrow:
A gas mixture containing oxygen, nitrogen, and neon exerts a total pressure of 1.12 atm .
If helium added to the mixture increases the pressure to 1.90 atm , what is the partial pressure of the helium?

Partial pressure is the amount of pressure just because of Helium.
Which is mole fraction of helium * total pressure.
Now pressure is directly proportional to number of moles with all others same Temp and volume.
say n moles exert a pressure of 1.12
then m moles of helium + n moles exert totally 1.9 atm
Hence m moles of Helium correspond to 1.9-1.12
So mole fraction of helium is n/(n+m) (1.9 -1.12)/1.9= .78/1.9
mole fraction of helium * total pressure(1.9) = 0.78atm
=partial pressure of helium

What's the importance of neon, hydrogen and helium ('trace' gases) (answering for any one gas will also do)?
It's for my project. I am not getting the info I need so I thought some of you may know. It'll work even if you answer for any one gas- neon, hydrogen OR helium. I am in urgent need of it. Best if you give some usage related to environment- it is Environmental Education homework.
Hydrogen is not a rare gas.It is manufactured in large quantities for industrial purposes.It is also used earlier in liquid form as rocket fuel.In many chemical processess it is used in high presure cylinders.
Rare gases are those which are present in traces in the air we breath.After oxygen and nitrogen are seperated from liquid air what remains is rare gases.They are Argon.neon,
krypton.These have many uses.They are used to give colors to our tube lights.Also argon is used as an inert atmosphere in arc welding of stainless steel,to prevent oxydation.
For a project you have to see more literature in a good chemistry library.Also read chemical technology books where they give different industrial uses and manufacture.
If you have a chemical engineering college nearby the professors will be of great help.
Optical Meter Can someone explain these optical tests?
I was just wondering what these tests below are. If you could explain them I would appreciate it. Are these something any local optometrist can perform?
- Ductions, versions, cover test and alternate cover test in primary and 6 cardinal positions of gaze.
- AO Vectograph Stereopsis Test at 6 meters (4 line version).
- AO Suppression Test at 6 meters.
- Randot or Titmus Stereopsis Test.
- Red Lens Test.

Ductions - Testing ONE eye, so the other eye will be occluded. You will perform an H pattern using a transilluminator at ~40cm and have the patient follow the pattern. This tests your eye muscle. This checks for the 6 cardinal positions of gaze.. up left, left mid, left bot.. etc. Each position mainly uses one of your six ocular muscle.
Versions - Testing BOTH eyes. This is a double H motion.. so l-l-l. Its the similar to as a duction test but does so binocularly. It tests to see how well your eyes (muscle) are working together.
AO Vectograph Stereopsis - Ive never used this test before, but we briefly went over it in class. It is a polarized chart, so the patient has to wear special glasses for this test. One eye will see a slightly different image than the other. This will in turn allow the patient to combine the slightly different images from both eyes and will result in a single 3d image. It tests for the depth perception at distance of the patient.
AO Suppression - Im guessing that this is a similar chart as the stereopsis one. This time, it is checking to see if one eye is suppressing. One eye will see a different marking than the other. If the patient sees both markings, then both eyes are working. If they only see the marking from the left eye, then the right eye is suppressing.
Randot - This is testing for depth perception at near.
Red Lens/Glass Test - You place a red lens in front of one of your patient's eyes. They will then look at a light source. One eye will see a spot of white light and the other eye will see a spot of red light. You will evaluate the patients eyes by where the light is located. For instance, the red light could be to the left, right, or directly over the white light. It tests the natural positions of your eyes.

CCD is the sensor which captures your picture. (The equivilent of the film in a film camera)
Super HAD is an improved type of sensor, which in theory takes better pictures than a standard CCD.

Color Support Color - I imagine that this means that it takes color pictures - (As opposed to black and white)
Exposure metering Multi-segment - this doesn't mean anything as all cameras do this. It just means that the camera can measure how much light is available, and properly expose the picture.
