It won't affect laser performance. I would check the glass index specifications of the lens to see if there is any chromatic shift you might not anticipate or run a raytrace model with lens design code. A 22nm difference in wavelength is not that big a deal.

I think you mean mW, not MW, they are very different.
You should know that lasers of this power (probably 50-100mW) are very dangerous. A chance reflection off a shiny object can hit your eye, or someone else's and cause permanent eye damage. Always use the proper eye protection, for you and everyone else in the room, and never use it in a room with windows. Keep it locked up.

I need to design a dc-dc converter that can take an input voltage of 600Vdc and output 12Vdc. The current output is less than 100mA, but I still would like decent efficiency
Perhaps one of the "off-line" type designs used in computer/laptop supplies. Ive seen some rectify 240Vac and drop it to about 18V putting out 50W or so.
Any help finding semiconductors (controller ICs, switching transistors, diodes, etc.) rated up to 600V would be greatly appreciated.

I'm willing to do this in two stages if needed. First convert 600Vdc to any 'reasonable' voltage; then regulate to 12Vdc.
You won't find much rated at 600 volts (you probably need 800 volts rating for a margin). What circuit do you plan on using? I doubt it needs more than a few parts rated for the high voltage. Probably diodes, capacitor and a power transistor. Diodes are no problem, 1N4007, for example. Caps, you may have to put 2 in series.
You can find MOSFETS (IRF830) that are good to 500 volts, and there may be some that are a bit higher. Otherwise you will need to put two in series.

LCDS
LCD displays utilise two sheets of polarising material with a liquid crystal solution between them. Crystals in this suspension are naturally aligned parallel with one another, allowing light to pass through the panel. When electric current is applied, the crystals change orientation and block light instead of allowing it to pass through, turning the crystal region dark.There are two main types of Liquid Crystal Displays: STN and TFT.
STN
Super Twisted Nematic LCDs use the passive matrix screen technology, which has no active or controlling element inside the display cell. Pixels are controlled by energising the appropriate row and column drive lines of the matrix from outside the display, resulting in a slow frame rate. STN screens have limited colour range and viewing angles (~15 degrees max).
TFT
With Thin Film Transistor (TFT) LCDs, each pixel is controlled by one to four transistors. Typically one transistor is used for each of the RGB colour channels. Because of this direct control technique, TFT screens are also called Active-Matrix LCDs.TFT technology provides more accurate colour control, allowing it to display more colours and also offer a wider viewing angle range than other types of LCDs.
OLED
OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode. OLED is a flat-panel display technology that is now being used in a variety of devices. Apart from mobile phones, you can also find OLED screens on portable audio players, car audio systems, PDAs and digital cameras. The basic property of OLEDs was discovered in 1985, over a decade before the first displays were seen. Ching Tang, a Kodak researcher, noticed that an organic material glows green if you pass an electrical current through it.An OLED is made by placing a series of organic thin films between two conductors. They operate on the attraction between positively and negatively charged particles. When voltage is applied, one layer becomes negatively charged relative to another transparent layer. As energy passes from the negatively charged layer to the other layer, it stimulates organic material between the two, which emits light visible through a layer of glass. There must be blue, red, and green light-producing organic material to produce the different colours. Because screens using OLED technology produce light themselves, they do not require a backlight as compared to LCD screens. Anyone know what kind of screwdriver I can use to undo the cd cover that holds the laser lens. The screw are incredibly small and none of phillips seem to work. Is there a certain size of screw driver i can use? Any substitutes you've used for a screwdriver? Please help.
you can get away with using a very small flat head screw driver or thats what i did anyway just be careful not to round the screw

Im having trouble with my mouse. After the computer's been switched on for awhile it starts to stutter; it takes little micro-pauses as it travels across the screen. These stutters get worse the longer the machine is on for. Ultimately I have to restart to make it usable again.
Ive cleaned the mouse. there's nothing in front of the lens. all the cables are good. changing usb ports makes no difference.

When the mouse is not getting good response then it is time to consider getting more RAM or doing spring cleaning!
Go through your programs and uninstall, using the built in "add/remove programs" program, junk such as Demos, Games, and software you never use.
