Laser Turning My xbox 360 drive had problems and I replaced the laser but now the discs don't spin at all. Any way I can fix
I don't think its the pcb board because the laser turns on but the mechanical parts of the hitachi drive just don't move
Ok so I figured out why the disc tray doesnt open and fixed that but I still can't get the motor to spin. Has anyone had a problem like this and got it to work?
hitachi drives are s*** try to get a benq drive...best way is to just buy a new 360 with the benq drive....i went through 4 360's in just over a year all of which had the samsung or hitachi drives...then they finally started using the benq drive and now my 360's worked for close to a year with absolutely no problems

How to get the Diode from a DVD Burner
How do I use the laser diode taken from a DVD burner?
I took a CD/DVD burner apart (from an old drive that was broken, not the laser though obviously). I found instructions at http://www.felesmagus.com/pages/lasers-howto.html so I decided to do the same and simply connect 2 AAA batteries to the diode I took out (in fact there were two, one at 780nm for the CD, and 650nm for the DVD). I compared both diodes with the diode taken from a CD burner, and thus figured out which one was the DVD diode.
I connected it with 2 cables to two (in series) AAA batteries...but I only get a very weak beam from it. When I collimate it with a lens it is slightly less powerful than the average 1mW red laser pointer. The guy on the website has a video on there which shows a fairly powerful diverging beam that melts through thin black plastic. How is this possible?
When he says he connects it to a 3vdc source does he mean a different source than 2x 1.5V AAA batteries?
Are there any better instructions out there? Nothing useful was found on google. Thanks!
2 aaa batteries are not enough, to provide enough amperes (or milli amperes in this case) try using NI-CD or NI-MH rechargeable batteries or provide the 3Volts DC from a transformer. usually the average AAA battery delivers less than 100 mA which is not enough for a laser diode
Mount Optical Table How to use a laser level for leveling actual objects?
I have a chamber mounted on an optical table. It's base has three legs where I can adjust them to level it. I tried leveling as best I can with a circular bubble level.
But a few insist that I use a laser level. I am not sure how I do that even with laser levels at that comes with a laser detector, since that is usually made for a staff and is used for find grades to slopes and stuff.
Laser levels below that are just simply project level lines used to install pictures, shelves, tiles, etc. level on walls.
I was thinking maybe making a special mount for the detector or something. I would hate spend hundreds of dollars (even though its not my money) to find out it won't work.
Any suggestions or comments?
A laser level is not the proper tool to level a three legged optical table.
Unless you have thousands of dollars to spend to get a good tool the accuracy is limited by the width of the beam.
A good machinists level with a fast bubble can be used to achieve great accuracy.
If scientific accuracy is not needed a good hand level will work well.

Install he laser level to shoot a line slightly above what you want to level. then use a steel rule or other measuring device to measure the distance to the laser at multiple points.

If you want to build solar panels by yourself, there are several things you need to keep in handy. Solar cells which will supply the electricity, a trusted multimeter to measure the voltage and current you generate, soldering wires, plastic insulators.
The first component of you solar panel is the solar cell. These solar cells are nifty little pieces that can convert sunlight into electricity. These solar cells create around 0.5 volts of electricity and around 6 amperes of current. When constructing your solar panel, it would be wise to determine where you will need your panel in order to determine how many solar cells you need. Solar cells can be purchased online through suppliers or even through online auction sites. Once you have determined how many solar cells you need, you can begin the process of wiring them together as you build your solar panel.
Solar cells need to be wired in series in order to add up the voltage that they generate individually. Series wiring means that the negative terminal of one cell should be connected to the positive terminal of the adjoining one. The negative terminal is usually located on the front end of the solar cell and conversely, the positive end of the cell is located at the back. You can connect the cells together by soldering the connecting wires.
Once you have soldered the cells together, it is also highly recommended that this array be protected from the elements. Oxidation on the terminals of your solar panel can create a drop in the voltage output, thereby reducing the efficiency of your panel in generating electricity. You can protect you solar panel by covering the cells in ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) sheets.
Since you chose to build solar panels by yourself, you know whether the panel will be connected directly or if you want to store the power it generates.
