Mount Mirror Lens What is this thing on my 1989 Jeep Cherokee?
I have a 1989 Jeep Cherokee. Right above the rear view mirror (mounted on the ceiling) is a little box with a black lens on the end. If I pull on the lens, a small box (maybe 2"x4"x1") housing some electronic equipment comes out. That is connected to a plug with a few wires on it. I thought it might be a digital clock or compass or something but there is no screen so I do not think that is it. If someone could help me figue out what it is, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Can I use convergent/divergent lens to converge rays of light into one powerfull ray of light? if so,how?

I'm looking to use lens for a decorative&ecological efect of light in my home.
In essence, i'd like to know if there is the tehnology to converge multiple rays of light into one ray and reflect them across open spaces, much like a lantern does, using its parabolic saped mirror, and get the oposite effect to spread that powerful ray of light in order to iluminate a whole room.
If it is posible and you know how can i obtain such mirrors/lens, please let me know. I am a land surveyor, so mounting them at a precise level is not an issue!

To create a "beam", You'll have to use a parabolic reflector with a carbon arc at the focal point. This beam will be narrow and can be spread by a convex mirror at the receiving end to illuminate a room. You can use one of those cheap laser pointers to experiment with different lenses and mirrors to check your optics. I would be interested to see how all this works out. I'm also a surveyor in Fort Myers, Florida.

Last night we sat down to watch a DVD and it displayed a split screen...the right half of the screen was on the left , and the left on the right.
My fiance believes that the DVD player was somehow jarred and the laser thrown off alignment.
Can he open the DVD player and re-align the laser?
lol, nah, an out of alignment laser wouldn't do anything like that. The problem most likely is because someone accidentally hit the Progressive Scan button on the remote or the unit, try pressing it again, if that doesn't work, take the disc out, put the drawer in, wait for it to say "no disc" then hold the stop button down for about 10 seconds, let me know how it goes.
